Original interview

BRIDIE FLORENCE : a passionate photographer

Tell me EMIE, who’s Bridie Florence ?

EMIE had the opportunity to ask Bridie Florence a few questions, a UK music photographer. She just toured with Demob Happy and The Mysterines.

E : First, can you introduce yourself ?

B : I’m Bridie Florence ! A UK based music photographer.

E : How did you start photography ?

B : I studied photography at A level and really loved it, but my main thing was songwriting. My sister (@katycummings_) is also an awesome music photographer, who made me want to do it even more. Music photography mostly started as a way for me to be around more musicians and discover more music to inspire my own writing.

E : What are your inspirations ?

B : David Bailey is so awesome, I’ll forever be obsessed with all of the pictures he took of Mick Jagger. Annie Leibowitz is also amazing with her photos of John and Yoko.. they’re massive inspirations for sure.

E : What are the photographers you like the most ?

B : That’s a difficult one, but I think Sharon Lopez (@sharonlopez) is absolutely smashing it out of the park at the moment with her photos. I love Lewis Evans’s photography (@lewsvans). Tom Pullen (@tompullenphoto) is touring with the Labour Party at the moment and capturing some serious history which I think is awesome. I just toured with Demob Happy and The Mysterines while they supported The Amazons, and it was a pleasure to work alongside Phoebe Fox (@shotbyphox) and see her snapping away. I love her photos! I of course have to mention my amazing sister too! Katy has been doing some awesome work with Two Door Cinema Club recently as well as being a full time super Mum.

E : Why did you specialize in concert photography ?

B : I love the adrenaline it gives me to shoot a gig, and the satisfaction I feel when I’m editing the photos and find a shot that I love! There’s nothing like the pre-show butterflies when you’re waiting in the photo pit in front of huge crowds. You can feel the excitement in the room.

E : What is your dream photo shoot (artist/band)?

B : I would absolutely love to work with Harry Styles or The Rolling Stones. That’s the stuff of dreams!

E : What are your projects for the next year?

B : I have a some shoots planned for next year. I plan to do more portrait work and do more tours, maybe do some fashion work too!

E : What are the pictures you are the most proud of  ?

E : What is your favorite music of the moment ?

B : My music taste seems to change week by week or depending on what mood I’m in. I’ve been going through a lot of older music at the moment and I’ve been listening to lots of The Beatles. Particularly Abbey Road and the White Album. I’m also loving Alvvays, Real Estate and Rex Orange County. So a bit of a mix in there !

Thanks, Bridie for taking the time to answer these questions.
